Spring-Cleaning for Truckers | West Coast Enterprises

Even truckers with the best intentions of keeping their rolling homes clean sometimes fall behind on the chores and there are plenty of things you don’t have to do all the time, but it’s good to get to once in a while.

Regardless of your reasons, the tradition of spring-cleaning can be a great reminder and motivator for you to tackle some of those tasks. If you’re thinking of giving your rig a spruce-up as the weather turns warmer, here are some tips for where you can focus some of your effort.

Truck Cleaning Tips

1. Replace the cabin air filter. If you haven’t done this or had it done in a while, this is a great time to do it. Not only is it important to helping you stay healthy, but it can also reduce the amount of allergens that are able to hitch a ride with you, which is important this time of year.

2. Wash the whole exterior, including the underside. Chances are you’ve come through some nasty winter weather in the past few months, which means the underside of your rig could be caked with dirt and corrosive road salt. Either take it to a shop where they can give it a good cleaning or use a sprayer to clear the debris.

3. Clean and disinfect the interior. Chances are you’ve paid a little more attention than usual to cleanliness over the last year, but it’s still a good idea to clean every surface and treat with disinfectants as appropriate and safe.

4. Vacuum all the upholstery. From the seats to the floor mats, you want to make sure you get everything that could be harboring dust, dirt or allergens. You can give your floor mats a good washing while you’re at it. This is also a good time to identify and treat stains on these soft surfaces. Additionally, if there are odors in your cab, locate them and use baking soda or coffee grounds to chase them away.

5. Treat interior surfaces. Get ready for the sunny months ahead by treating interior surfaces with a protectant that doesn’t leave the surfaces shiny, since shiny surfaces can create blinding glare. Doing so can help prevent or at least delay fading and cracking that can happen to untreated surfaces.

6. Prepare for the road. Use some hacks for keeping your ride clean, such as keeping a small wastebasket onboard, to make next year’s spring-cleaning a little easier.
