Tips for Staying Cooler While Driving This Summer | West Coast Enterprises
Being hot on a haul can make for a miserable day. With the sun pouring in every window, even keeping the air conditioner on at full blast isn’t always enough to keep you comfortable. If you find yourself sweating on the road, here are some tips for keeping your cool.
How to Stay Cooler While Driving
Drive more when it’s cooler, if possible. We know this may not be possible when you don’t dictate your schedule and even when you do but have dock times to meet.
Drink plenty of cold water. The Mayo Clinic recommends men drink 3.7 liters of fluids per day and women get 2.7 liters. Opting for cold water can help keep you cooler and well-hydrated.
Place a bottle of frozen water behind your neck. This one has a dual benefit. Since a lot of blood flows through your neck all the time, keeping a block of ice against it can go a long way to keeping you cool. Plus, you can drink the water when the ice melts.
Use a dash fan. These little units typically clip or mount onto the dashboard and plug into the cigarette lighter or power outlet and can provide a decent breeze that enhances what your air conditioner does.
Use a portable AC. Great for supplementing your factory air conditioner, these portable units can also fill in for that system if it goes down.
Park in the shade when possible. There isn’t a lot of shade around truck lots, but if you can find some, take advantage of it. If you have an APU, you can also use it to keep a portable AC running while you’re away from the rig.
